2nd and 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry
Regimental Rosters

You often hear that 'a few men from western NC and eastern TN left the Confederate army and joined the Union when they were about to win'. Or they were forced to join the Union. To date, for the 2NCMI and 3NCMI, those 'few' in number stands at 1,767 troops. The map will show where they were from. I've used modern county outlines, since I don't have adjacent state's historical outlines, so there are counties depicted that didn't exist back then. Those won't have men associated with them of course. And the muster rolls from which I took the information stated where the man was born, not where he was living when he joined. But all-in-all, it gives you a great overview of where they were from. I haven't finished, the officer muster rolls I have don't give a birthplace, and some records from Georgia, Ohio, South Carolina and Pennsylvania will take a bit more studying. The number overlaid on each county is the number of men that claimed that county as where they were from.

These are the soldiers from the county that I live in. I'm only posting one image from their files, most files have from 10-20 images. I have the service folders for soldiers from both regiments , and while there is a wealth of information in them, it would be too time consuming to publish all of the records.
